“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” (PG, 114 minutes, Fox): As the title character, Ben Stiller brings his jut-jawed, laser-blue glare to a character who starts off as something of a passive cipher. As a longtime manager for “negative assets” at Life magazine, Walter processes the magazine’s photographers’ celluloid – in other words, he’s an obsolete guy working in an obsolete media platform within a soon-to-be all-digital art form. The film’s opening scene – wherein Walter hesitantly “winks” at a woman on an online dating forum – makes it clear: This is a man working at Life, rather than living it. The unevenness of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” and Stiller’s recessive characterization of the title character, keep it from being an all-out crowd-pleaser. Still, there’s a winsome, attaboy appeal to “Walter Mitty” that deserves to be honored. It’s a perfectly likable movie, and sometimes that’s good enough. Contains some crude comments, profanity and action violence. Extras: Behind-the-scenes featurettes “The Look of Life,” “The Music of Walter Mitty,” “Skateboarding Through Iceland”; gallery of reference photography. Also, on Blu-ray: deleted scenes; extended and alternate scenes; additional featurettes “The History of Walter Mitty,” “That’s a Shark,” “Icelandic Adventure,” “Nordic Casting,” “Titles of Walter Mitty” and “Ted-Walter Flight”; “Stay Alive” music video by Jose Gonzalez.
“The Nut Job” (PG, 86 minutes, Universal): Cleverness is in short supply in this animated feature about a grouchy squirrel named Surly and his best buddy (Buddy the mute rat), who plan a heist to steal cashews, peanuts and almonds, Of all the flaws of “The Nut Job,” Surly’s gruff attitude is one of the hardest to overcome, He’s not a very fun character to travel with, even when he evolves into a kinder, gentler squirrel with an after-school-special-worthy lesson to share, But it doesn’t compare to the growing list of children’s movies that also delight adults were, Contains mild action and rude humor, Extras include how to sew ballet shoes animated shorts “Surly Squirrel” (the 2005 short that inspired the film) and “Nuts & Robbers.” Also, on Blu-ray: deleted scenes, storyboards slide show, lead voice actor Will Arnett interview on the script and dance-off end credits, Also available in 3D..

Making a re-do as guest judge was two-time DWTS champ, Julianne Hough, wearing a black, floor-length gown with an eye-boggling gap from neck to belly button. “Wow, what a dress!” observed host Tom Bergeron. That’s right, it’s Derek’s sis who made some catty remarks about Mark Ballas when she was guest judge last season. Wondering if she put her stiletto in her mouth tonight? Yup, that she did when she told Maksim Chmerkovskiy that she thought he was “phoning it in (with Danica McKeller) so you could get back to Meryl (Davis).” Me-ow!.
Speaking of Meryl, she is leaving Charlie White, her ice dancing partner, in the dancing dust and it doesn’t matter with which Chmerkovskiy brother she dances, She scored three 10s and a 9 last week doing a foxtrot with Maks — then turned around and danced a hot, hot Argentine tango how to sew ballet shoes this week with Val that was absolutely incredible and earned the pair another three 10s and a 9 (from Len, of course), At this rate, no one is going to be able to catch her, I’m sure the odds just went crazy in Vegas for her to take home the Mirrorball Trophy..
The pair danced the last routine of the night and it left the judges breathless. Although he thought it had a “little bit too much staccato,” head judge Len Goodman said it was the dance of the night. Julianne said she wants to dance like Meryl, which shocked the figure skater, and judge Carrie Ann Inaba said that “you two are in a class of your own. Untouchable!” Maks, watching from the skybox, told co-host Erin Andrews, “I agree for once with Carrie Ann.”. All of the celebs did very well with their switched up partners, but the same can’t be said for the musical accompaniment. In two performances, the music had problems and it was to the dancers’ credit that they just kept going. The music is supposed to be live on the show, but both times, the pros referred to “the track” being off. What’s up??.
The scores tonight were combined with last week’s scores, and that goes for those of both judges and viewers, Week 5 will see an elimination of an original couple, but it how to sew ballet shoes won’t be Meryl, who ended up with a total of 78 points out of 80, The closest competitors were seven or eight points back, and the rest of the field trailed behind, James Maslow and Cheryl Burke performed a tango that was sizzling and I thought that they would take the top spot for the night, Julianne said James was the total package but that he stuck his butt out, and that started butt jokes from all of the judges, Sigh, Carrie Ann said that she didn’t notice the switch in partners, from Peta Murgatroyd to Cheryl, for James in the dance, And it was smoking hot, Scores: Carrie Ann – 9; Len- 8; Julianne- 9; Bruno Tonioli – 9 = 35 + 36 for a two-week total of 71..
